The first car I ever owned is the 8 sitting on the drive. Number 1. It's the first love, I suppose.

I learned to drive, however, in a 2007 1.5dci Renault Scenic. It was big, but it had great visibility, a great clutch and gearbox and was a surprisingly handy learner's car. It let you know when it was about to stall, offered the best electronic handbrake ever. And it even ran naturally aspirated when the turbocharger wastegate stuck open, without being too perturbed. But it had no poke.

The two household cars are both '12 and '13 1.5dci Meganes - one of them a 2-door, the other a GT-Line estate. Neither are particularly quick, or offer decent handling. Neither have a good gearbox. But they are comfy and have cruise control and can cover miles without bothering you too much. But overtaking anything faster than an invalid carriage is never going to happen. There's nothing at all in either of them above 80kph. It's dangerously slow.

The car I miss, however, is a 1.8 Renault Laguna II, '04, automatic. That thing was a big, comfy barge. It just wafted along. It never gave a days trouble either until someone decided to drive it through a flood on the way home and the autobox puked. It also got through petrol at a fair rate thanks to being a traditional slushbox. But it had shove when called on, and it had comfort. And it was a proper cruiser.

Jesus looking at this list above, my early car's are embarrassing. VW Polo 1.4 (60bhp) Hyundai Coupe 2.0 (138bhp) Mazda RX8 (231bhp) Mazda RX7 FD3S (280bhp) the trend is going up, so hopefully the next yoke will be something mental like 500BHP...lol

01 Toyota Avensis 1.6 / Petrol

2004 Subaru Legacy  3.0R Spec B - So much fun and also so comfortable and very much wolf in sheeps clothing

2001 Volvo V70 2.0 Turbo (had to get a mortgage....) - Also referred to as the hearse

1975 Ford Mustang Mach 1 - Those were some fun years! 5.0 V8 no grip at all what so ever wet or dry

2004 Citroen Xsara estate 2.0 Diesel (boring car to drive to work while I enjoy the next car in the list at the weekends...)
