What Have You Done to Your RX Today?

Fitted a new midpipe at the weekend

Finally got around to fitting. First thing that struck me was that it comes in 2 parts. Didn't look like that on the website. Also, there were no bolts for connecting the rear to the cat-back, which was a bit annoying. Luckily I was able to scavenge some suitable ones in my brother's garage. It came with a gasket for the rear but not the front, but I knew that in advance so had a new one ready. Fitting was fairly straight forward. Managed no bother by myself. Although it was made a lot easier by having a lift. Have only done one journey so far, but the annoying noise seems to be gone. Not a huge difference in sound compared to the Toyo, but there's no longer a tinny/raspy drone around 3-4k rpm, which is exactly what Ryan Rotary claim, so I'm happy with that.

They can be noisy, but a rattle or chattering isn't normal from the gearbox. It's usually more of a whirring type noise. Does it only happen when the car is moving? Interestingly, exactly 2k and 3k rpm is where my rattle is. Yeah, I'm in Dubland - D7/15 area. Will let you know when I have it fitted.

Nope. Was delivered a week or 2 ago. Planning on installing either this weekend or weekend after. Glad your rattle is sorted though!

Will do. Hoping to fit it within the next month. Yeah, I have the stock catback and this should fit no probs. I've had a toyosports decat fitted for about the past 6 years or so, and in fairness it's been grand til it started rattling a few months ago, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the new one sounds like as the toyo was always a bit tinny around 3.5k rpm.

Toyosport is a popular choice due to the price, but it is a little bit on the raspy side. I currently have this on order and it sounds like it might be what you're looking for too https://www.ryanrotaryperformance.com/shop/3-dual-resonated-de-cat

That kind of noise is often reported when the cat is failing. Good news is that since we're emissions exempt you can replace with a much cheaper decat pipe. I already have a decat but currently have a similar noise. I found the heatshield on the downpipe was loose so I tightened it with a big jubilee clip, but it made no difference. After putting the car on a lift I found the noise was actually coming from the resonator.
  8. Sounds similar to symptoms I had recently, which turned out to be a bad coil.

    Hmm. Stationary bearing(s)?

Shadow got to the bottom of the problem. Turned out to be a bad coil. All good now [emoji3] Next step is to get onto Rotary Revs as they have a lifetime warranty. Edit: for the sake of completeness, other symptoms included slow starting and a hesitation and lack of power around 4k rpm. Interestingly it seemed to run fine above 5k.
  11. I ran my 585s for years with no remap and it was grand. Slight performance improvement if you do get the remap. @jp If the strakes are as clean and shiny as they seem in the photos then I'll take them. I'd rather spend 20 quid than try to polish mine

The driver's side mount had very little gap left to the bracket so assumed that was the problem. Fitted new one and problem still there At first it could only be felt when the car was hot. At idle you could feel a slight vibration/knocking through the brake pedal, almost like what it feels like when the ABS engages. Gradually it's gotten worse. Can be felt when cold now and sometimes the engine feels like it's shuddering a bit when taking off. Gonna drop it in to shadow to see if they can sort it.

Engine Cooling System - alot of heat

Apparently it can move past half way. But I think the temperature needs to be approaching that of nuclear fusion Anyway, glad you're sorted

Yeah, she finally had enough. Got it rebuilt in Shadow a few weeks ago. The usual mods, including street porting. She had been flying, but now it's developed a bit of a vibration, and hesitation, which I think is related. Had a look at the mounts there at the weekend and it seems the driver's side one is on the way out. Only replaced the bloody things 4 years ago, which would be 50k km max. It never rains but it pours

The fans staying on that long definitely isn't normal. You'll need an OBD reader to find out just how hot it is. The temperature gauge is one step above useless.
